The United States continued its attacks on Iran for a ninth consecutive day, while Iran responded by attacking American targets in Bahrain and Kuwait and striking oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian media reported on Monday that strikes were carried out around Tabriz, where underground missile bases are believed to exist, and in Bushehr, home to the country’s only operational nuclear power plant used for peaceful purposes. At the same time, the U.S. military announced that it had struck “military command centres, air defence and coastal surveillance systems, naval capabilities, missile and drone launch facilities, and communications networks.”
Donald Trump stated that the U.S. attacks were carried out “in honour of” three American soldiers killed in Iranian attacks on U.S. military bases.
Since the beginning of the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran, more than 3,686 people have been killed in Iran and 17 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Gulf countries.
Meanwhile, Iran says it will not allow “a single drop” of oil or natural gas to pass as long as the United States continues its attacks.
Shipping through the Strait has been reduced to a minimum because of the conflict, while oil prices have reached their highest level in the past month, exceeding $90 per barrel and worsening the global energy crisis.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States will continue to “respond”; however, “if a path to diplomacy opens, (…) that would be a very positive development.”
