The Athens Court of Misdemeanors has referred three officers from the DIAS Motorcycle Police Unit to trial for the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old at the Omonia police station two years ago, according to “Efimerida ton Sintakton.”
The court followed the deputy prosecutor’s recommendation to charge the officers with felonies based on the 19-year-old’s allegations about the incident at the police station.
The two main defendants, who are suspended from the police force, face charges of gang rape, while the third is charged with complicity.
The defendants claim that everything happened with her consent, while a forensic report states that the 19-year-old was raped.
The second defendant also faces charges for violating personal data laws, as he recorded the incident with a camera and later transferred the footage to his phone.
Initially, a fourth DIAS officer was also charged, but he was cleared of all charges due to a lack of incriminating evidence.
The defendants claim that everything happened with the 19-year-old’s consent, with one of their lawyers, Alexis Kougias, arguing that the 19-year-old was not raped but rather “fulfilled a fantasy.”
The court’s decision notes that the defendants instilled fear in the 19-year-old, who was in a state of “complete inability to react.” A forensic report also confirms that the 19-year-old was raped.
