The Hellenic Railways Organisation was required to inform the authorities that the videos from Thessaloniki Railway Station would be deleted within 15 days. However, there was the option to retain them for 3 or more months. However, according to a report by News247, it proceeded with their deletion after the 15-day period.
As per the guidelines of the Personal Data Protection Authority, The Hellenic Railways Organisation is responsible for processing all audiovisual material related to the Tempi case.
In August 2023, the Hellenic Railways Organisation responded to the investigative authorities’ delayed request for videos of the commercial train’s movement.
Yesterday, a collision between an Intercity and a suburban train was avoided, as the suburban train was immobilized on the same track while the Intercity was moving normally in Katerini.
However, by that time, the videos had already been deleted, so they had to be sent for processing at specialized labs. These labs, however, were unable to provide the footage in time for the day of the accident, leaving the authorities without any material from the movement of the commercial train.
On March 14, 2023, the Larissa prosecutor issued an order to the Attica Security Directorate, requesting that the Forensic Investigation Directorate seize any audio, video, or digital data carriers found during the investigation.
Despite the order, no seizure took place. As a result, 13 months passed, with reports about the editing of audio and later video footage, before the authorities were finally able to obtain access to the full set of evidence, according to “News247.”
