Donald Trump stated that he is extending the ceasefire with Iran which was in force until today, and that he expects a “unified proposal” from Iran so that the discussions of the two sides are completed, either for peace or for continuation of the war.
“Based on the fact that the government of Iran is seriously fragmented, something not unexpected, and following a request of Field Marshal Asim Munir and the prime minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, we were asked to suspend our attack against the country of Iran until its leaders and representatives arrive at a unified proposal,” he wrote on Truth Social.
The request for the ceasefire was made by Pakistan and the announcement was made at the time when the talks appeared increasingly more uncertain. The two countries had stated that they are ready to restart the hostilities if agreement is not achieved.
The Revolutionary Guards struck two ships of Greek interests causing only material damages: one in Oman and one in the Strait of Hormuz.
At the same time, the US continues the naval blockade of the Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz.
In his post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Iran is “collapsing economically” and that it loses $500 million every day that the Strait of Hormuz remains essentially closed.
Iran is uncertain whether it will participate in the negotiations in Pakistan, as a representative of the Foreign Ministry stated earlier on Tuesday, and says that it will take part only if it estimates that the discussions will have a result.
