The government gives incentives to scientists, university professors and doctors who left Greece during the years of the crisis, for example exemption from tax for 50% of the income they will acquire over the next 7 years, if they return to work in the public sector.

Those who “move” their tax residence to Greece will also have exemption from the presumption tax for ownership and use of a private vehicle.

Some conditions for this to happen are the transfer of their tax residence to Greece, that they were not tax residents of Greece during the previous 5 years and their stay in Greece for 2+ years.

Until now the measure applied to those who wanted to work in the private sector, while it will now also concern Europeans who want to work in Greece.

The favourable provisions do not concern only Greeks who left abroad, mainly during the years of the crisis, but also Europeans who want to work in Greece. Until today, the measure applied to those who wanted to work in the private sector. According to the data of the Ministry of Finance, about 8,000 applications have been submitted by workers who want to work in Greece and more than 5,000 have been approved.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had announced the provision of incentives so that the road opens for scientists from the US who want to return to Greece and support the National Health System.

The submission of applications for inclusion is carried out through the digital portal myAADE (myaade.gov.gr) in the following way: Applications > Tax Services > Income > Submission of application for inclusion in special taxation method (article 5G of the Income Tax Code).
