Donald Trump announced that he is “freezing” for a short period of time “Project Freedom”, the operation for the unblocking of ships outside the Strait of Hormuz, however continuing their blockade.
Trump’s sudden change of plans was announced through a post on social media, where he stated that he is doing it in order to give space to American efforts for an agreement with Iran for the ending of the war to be completed.
He also stated that he took the decision “following a request by Pakistan and other countries, because of the tremendous military success that we had during the campaign against the country of Iran and, additionally, because great progress has been made toward a full and final agreement with Iranian representatives.”
Although Donald Trump speaks about “success” of Project Freedom, only 2 commercial ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz and hundreds of others remain trapped.
Although Donald Trump speaks about “success”, in reality as long as the original goals of the war, such as regime change and the halt to Iran’s nuclear programme, are not achieved, finding a solution for the end of the war will be the best scenario for him, because of the political crisis caused by inflation due to the war.
He himself, in fact, lately seems to avoid even characterising the US war in Iran as a “war”, using other words or phrases, such as “mini war” or even “excursion”.
