Sixteen days after the parliamentary elections, France’s New Popular Front nominated Lucie Castets as their candidate for prime minister.
Lucie Castets, who is unaffiliated with any political party, is an economist, a School of Public Administration graduate, and currently serves as the Director of Financial Affairs for the Paris City Council.
Following the New Popular Front’s announcement, Castets told the French News Agency that she aims to abolish pension reform. She also supports enhancing the French purchasing power and increasing the minimum wage.
Although the left-wing alliance New Popular Front has the most seats in the National Assembly, it does not have an absolute majority.
E. Macron said in an interview last night that he will not appoint a new government before the end of the Olympic Games.
The French president stated that no coalition secured enough seats to fully implement its electoral program. This means intense political negotiations are expected until a majority is formed to approve the new government.
Following the parliamentary elections, France currently has a caretaker government. The left-wing coalition New Popular Front emerged with the most seats but lacked a sufficient majority to form a fully autonomous government.
