Miltos Tentoglou equalled the Greek national long jump record with a leap of 8.66 metres in the final of the Greek Athletics Championships at the Panthessaliko Stadium in Volos, confirming his excellent form just a few weeks before the European Championships in Birmingham.
The two-time Olympic champion opened the competition with 8.52 metres, aided by a wind speed of +1.1 metres per second, improving from his very first attempt on the championship record of 8.48 metres, which he himself had held since 2021.
The two-time Olympic champion had already recorded the world-leading mark this year at the Monaco Diamond League, with a jump of 8.61 metres.
On his second attempt, he landed at 8.66 metres, but the wind was measured at +2.7 m/s, above the legal limit of +2.0 m/s. The jump counted towards the competition standings, but could not be recognised as an official record or personal best. On his third attempt, he reached 8.66 metres again, this time with a legal wind, equalling the Greek national record set by Louis Tsatoumas in Kalamata in June 2007.
The mark is a new personal best for Tentoglou, surpassing the 8.65 metres he achieved at the 2024 European Championships in Rome. It also moves him to the top of the world rankings for 2026. Earlier in the season, the Greek champion had jumped 8.61 metres at the Monaco Diamond League, which was the world-leading performance at the time.
