During its meeting, the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA proposed that the party’s leadership elections be held on November 24th (first round) and December 1st (second round, if necessary).
Additionally, the Political Secretariat suggested holding the party’s congress from November 1st to 3rd, during which the candidates for the leadership election will be announced.
The Secretariat’s proposal for the election dates and the extraordinary congress was approved with a vote of 18-3.
P. Polakis and A. Gkletsos are considered certain candidates, while the outgoing president, S. Kasselakis, has yet to disclose his intentions.
The next step is for SYRIZA’s Central Committee to evaluate the Political Secretariat’s proposal in two weeks, at which point the election dates will be finalized.
“Today, the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA-PS met to implement the recent Central Committee decisions about the Extraordinary Congress and the presidential election and to prepare for the party’s presence at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) next weekend,” SYRIZA announced in a statement.
Regarding the Thessaloniki International Fair, the announcement adds that SYRIZA-PS will present “a comprehensive and detailed program that will credibly and convincingly address all the major issues concerning Greek society, from inflation and profiteering to tax policy, and from the housing crisis to the protection and strengthening of the welfare state, Health, Education, and Civil Protection.”
