Neo-Nazi Golden Dawn members Ilias Panagiotaros and Christos Pappas have been released from prison by decision of the Lamia Misdemeanor Court Council, which ruled that they had served part of their sentences without disciplinary violations.

Both men were sentenced in 2020 to 13 years in prison as senior figures of Golden Dawn, which is classified as a criminal organization. Their release is conditional: they are barred from leaving the country and must report once a month to their local police station.

Earlier this week, Appeals Prosecutor Athina Papa proposed the conditional release of another convicted Golden Dawn member, Ilias Kasidiaris.

Three days ago, the appellate prosecutor proposed the conditional release of Ilias Kasidiaris, another convicted member of Golden Dawn.

Specifically, the prosecutor proposed that Kasidiaris be subject to a travel ban and required to report regularly to his local police station. She argued that, like Pappas and Panagiotaros, he meets the necessary conditions for release and has committed no disciplinary violations during his time in prison.

The legal team representing the Egyptian fishermen — victims in the Golden Dawn trial — issued a statement condemning the proposed release. They called any consideration of Kasidiaris’s release “provocative and dangerous for society,” referring to him as a former MP and leading figure in a convicted criminal organization.
