Thousands of students, pupils, and teachers marched in Athens to protest the Tempi tragedy. The police reported a turnout of 5,500 people.

Similar protests took place in 30 other cities across Greece, including Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Patras, and Larissa.

The demands of the protests across Greece include justice for the victims of Tempi, an investigation into the cause of the fire after the collision, and accountability for any criminal responsibility in the “cover-up.”

According to a survey by Metron Analysis of 1,200 people, more than 7 out of 10 Greeks believe the government is covering up the Tempi tragedy.

In Athens, protesters began their demonstration at the Propylaea and then marched to the Greek Parliament, where they stayed for a significant period. In Thessaloniki, protesters gathered at the Venizelos statue and marched along Egnatia Street.

ADEDY has already called for a nationwide strike on February 28, marking the second anniversary of the Tempi tragedy, with large protests planned nationwide. Recent protests (on January 26) saw hundreds of thousands of people rallying nationwide for the same cause.

The latest development in the investigation of criminal responsibility for the causes of the tragedy is that Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Christos Triantopoulos announced he would resign once the Preliminary Investigation Committee is formed to examine any potential criminal responsibility he may have regarding the “cover-up” of the Tempi tragedy.
