The Israeli military has detained at least 100 activists from the “Global Sumud Flotilla,” which is attempting to reach Gaza, according to information reported by Al Jazeera.

According to a statement by the “Global Sumud Flotilla,” Israeli soldiers have already boarded the first vessels of the solidarity convoy sailing east of Cyprus.

Israeli media reported that the navy will transfer the detained activists to the country’s largest port, Ashdod. They added that four Israeli warships involved in the operation ordered those aboard the flotilla to shut down their engines.

The flotilla, consisting of 54 vessels, departed from Marmaris with the stated aim of breaking the blockade on Gaza, which has been in place since 2007.

Reports also stated that the operation to take control of all vessels in the flotilla would last several hours and might continue until tomorrow.

An activist aboard the first vessel told an Al Jazeera correspondent that the flotilla would not stop its course toward Gaza.

The flotilla, made up of 54 vessels, departed on Thursday from Marmaris in a renewed attempt to break Israel’s blockade on Gaza, which has been in effect since 2007.

This is the third such attempt since October 7, 2023. The previous flotilla was intercepted by Israeli forces on April 30, and the 175 activists aboard the vessels were detained in international waters.
