A 58-year-old man stabbed and killed his 44-year-old wife this afternoon in the village of Dialampi in Rodopi. According to local media, the woman suffered several injuries, including a wound to the neck. She was taken by ambulance to Komotini General Hospital but had already died.

Police were reportedly alerted by the couple’s 24-year-old daughter. The couple have two other children, including a 16-year-old.

According to the local Rodopi newspaper Chronos, the man then injured himself with a knife and drank a liquid believed to be diesel. He is intubated and under police guard at Sismanogleio General Hospital in Komotini.

It is the second femicide in four days, after a man fatally shot his wife in Nea Smyrni on Sunday.

Police collected two knives from the scene, which will be examined to determine whether either was used in the killing. The Komotini Department for the Investigation and Detection of Crimes is conducting the investigation, while an autopsy of the woman is also expected.

The woman had previously filed a complaint against her husband over an incident of domestic violence in Heraklion, Crete.
