The Houthis launched attacks on Riyadh airport in Saudi Arabia on Saturday and Sunday, killing a total of 14 people and injuring more than 300.
The escalation threatens to draw more countries into the conflict in Yemen, as Donald Trump said he was considering joining Saudi Arabia in the conflict.
Saudi Arabia extended the suspension of operations at Riyadh airport, while schools will continue remote learning until Thursday. On Sunday evening, Saudi authorities also reported an attack on the airport in Dammam. The country’s civil aviation authority said on X: “Damage assessments and checks to confirm the safety of airport facilities are still underway, in coordination with the relevant authorities.”
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis in Yemen, killing around 90 people over the past six weeks.
The Houthis also said that Saudi Arabia had attacked the airport in Sana’a, Yemen’s rebel-held capital, on Sunday, but provided no further details about damage or casualties.
Saudi Arabia has long carried out airstrikes against the Houthis in Yemen. The Houthi government’s health ministry said coalition airstrikes over the past six weeks had killed 91 people and injured 168, with women and children accounting for 60% of the casualties.
