Greek citizens are pessimistic about their standard of living but happy with the EU

Greek citizens conveyed pessimism regarding their standard of living in the latest Eurobarometer poll, with a striking 74% reporting a decline over the past five years, compared to the 45% EU average.

Despite this, nearly half (48%) anticipate further declines in their standard of living (compared to 32% in the EU), while 35% (49% in the EU) expect it to remain stagnant and 13% (15% in the EU) anticipate improvement. Additionally, 28% reported difficulty paying their bills at the end of the month over the past year, while 51% have faced this issue occasionally.

More than half (52%) foresee a deterioration in the national economy over the next year, while six in ten expressed dissatisfaction with the state of democracy in the country.

According to the Eurobarometer, the primary concerns of Greeks in the European Elections are centered around public health, economic support, and poverty alleviation.

Simultaneously, 80% of Greek citizens believe that the EU influences their daily lives, 70% recognize the benefits of their country’s EU membership, and 60% express optimism about the EU’s progress.

56% expressed interest in the European elections, while 76% stated they would participate if the elections were held next week. Additionally, 78% believe voting is even more crucial given the current geopolitical situation.
