Ferries are expected to remain docked on Friday, October 30, at the ports of Piraeus, Rafina, Lavrio, Patras, Igoumenitsa and Elefsina, as well as on the Rio–Antirrio route, due to strike action by maritime workers. Passengers are advised to contact ferry operators for information on possible cancellations or schedule changes.

The workers’ main demands include a 12% pay increase under collective bargaining agreements and improved crew staffing levels to strengthen working conditions and maritime safety.

Maritime workers are also calling for dangerous shipping areas to be designated as war zones due to risks arising from international armed conflicts, along with the introduction of a seven-hour working day and mandatory onboard medical staff.

Meanwhile, the Panhellenic Federation of Permanent Port Employees has announced three-hour work stoppages from 10:00 to 13:00.

In Piraeus, the local Labour Centre has called a 24-hour strike, with a rally scheduled for 10:00 at Municipal Theatre Square as part of the International Day of Action for Dockworkers and Port Workers.

According to its announcement, trade unions representing workers at more than 100 ports across dozens of countries on four continents are coordinating strikes, work stoppages and other protests.

The international action involves workers from Mediterranean ports, including Piraeus, Marseille, Genoa, Bilbao and Istanbul, as well as from countries such as India, Morocco, Mexico and Cyprus.

A key demand of the unions is that ports should not be used to transport weapons, military equipment or troops to conflict zones.
