The disappearance of 61-year-old Olga Vasilieva in Cyprus ended tragically after her body was found in a well in the Saittas area of mountainous Limassol on Saturday night (October 31).
Her 43-year-old partner confessed to killing her on Saturday night. The two had been in a relationship for several months. According to Cypriot media reports, the victim was believed to be financially well-off.
According to Politis, the well where her body was found is located on property owned by the victim.
Vasilieva was reported missing to police on October 28, five days after she was last seen on October 23.
Between 2021 and 2025, 17 femicides were recorded in Cyprus, while 18,409 reports of domestic violence were filed between 2021 and 2026.
During the investigation, authorities were examining a suspected abduction with intent to commit premeditated murder. The 43-year-old was arrested at Larnaca Airport as he was reportedly attempting to leave Cyprus.
He claimed he needed to travel urgently because someone close to him was experiencing a serious health problem. He initially denied any involvement in Vasilieva’s disappearance, claiming he had dropped her off near her car and that she intended to visit a friend in the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus.
Witness statements and evidence gathered during the investigation subsequently led to his confession.
