The film “Conclave” by Edward Berger won the Best Film award at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards, as well as the Best British Film award. It became the second film to win both awards in the same year, after the war drama “1917” achieved this in 2020. Overall, it won 4 awards out of the 12 for which it was nominated.

The film is a drama about the gathering of the College of Cardinals (papal Conclave) after the death of the Pope to elect a new one, where completely opposing political and religious ideologies prevail.

The BAFTA Awards are the British equivalent of the Oscars and, since 2023, have been held at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

The drama film The Brutalist, a historical post-war drama, won 4 awards, including Best Director and Best Leading Actor for Adrien Brody’s performance. Emilia Perez won 2 awards from 11 nominations. She also has 13 nominations for the Oscars.

The films Wicked, Anora, Dune Part 2, A Real Pain, and Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl each won 2 awards. Additionally, this marks the third consecutive year in which no British actor or actress won one of the 4 acting awards.

Despite multiple nominations, the films A Complete Unknown, Nosferatu, Blitz, Gladiator II, and The Apprentice did not win any awards.
