Sean Combs, the hip-hop mogul known professionally as P. Diddy, was acquitted Tuesday of the two most serious charges brought against him — sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy — but was found guilty on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for the purpose of prostitution.
After several weeks of testimonies and legal arguments, the jury of eight men and four women began deliberations on Monday and reached a unanimous verdict on four of the five charges by Tuesday. Combs was cleared of the racketeering charge, which carried a potential life sentence, but now faces up to 20 years in prison — 10 for each of the two federal transportation violations, prosecuted under the Mann Act.
For the two charges on which P. Diddy was found guilty, he faces a potential prison sentence of up to 20 years — 10 years for each count.
Moments after the verdict was read in federal court, Combs bowed his head in prayer as he looked toward his family. His attorney requested his conditional release, citing his acquittal on the most severe charges. The court, however, denied the request.
The case centered on allegations that Combs coerced women — including singer Cassie Ventura, his former partner from 2007 to 2018 — into participating in drug-fueled, marathon sex parties involving male escorts, events that prosecutors said Combs orchestrated and sometimes filmed. Prosecutors also accused him of heading a criminal network, using a circle of aides to coordinate those parties, that were referred to as “freak-offs.”
His family and supporters erupted in applause and cheers, but his sentencing date has yet to be announced. He has been held at a federal detention center in Brooklyn since his arrest in September 2024.
