A total of ten extremely dangerous buildings are recorded in Germasogeia after Saturday’s tragedy, which mobilized the authorities and led some owners to repairs, without however the danger having been eliminated.
One of them is the SEA GATE apartment building on Vasileos Georgiou Street, the condition of which is described as extremely serious and requires immediate evacuation, and evacuation letters to the owners are already being prepared, which will be served to them and will not be sent by post.
In the Municipality of Amathounta, another 9 apartment buildings are recorded that are judged immediately dangerous.
The evacuation deadline is expected to be three days, while by Monday the evacuation and sealing of the building is expected with the presence of Police. In the apartment building there are 12 owners and the majority of them are not cooperating for the necessary repairs. One of them claims that he will undertake alone the cost of the works, however competent sources doubt his claims.
The competent services are examining files of dangerous buildings across Cyprus, with the aim that a new tragedy be prevented. In Germasogeia priority is given to the most dangerous buildings, where immediate intervention is required.
In the Municipality of Amathounta another 9 apartment buildings are recorded that are judged immediately dangerous. All are in use and are inhabited, mainly by tenants, while on none is there danger signage and, although in some maintenance works have been carried out, their dangerousness has not been lifted.
