The average daily traffic on Attiki Odos increased by 5.35% (266,848 vehicles) in the first two months of 2025 compared to the same period last year.
Traffic growth has been steady, with an average of 250,000 vehicles per day in 2023, and 273,600 in 2024.
In 2024, the year started with an average of 243,316 vehicles per day, rising to 263,953 in February. It decreased in March but increased again in April, surpassing 287,000 vehicles per day. Traffic followed a similar pattern for the rest of the year, with the highest recorded in June (304,271), and the year closed in December with 267,724 vehicles per day.
The highest traffic levels are between Metamorphosi and Duk. Plakentias, with peak hours between 8-9 a.m. and 5-6 p.m. on weekdays.
Attiki Odos is preferred despite congestion and tolls because the road is in better condition than other parts of the network, and there are no alternatives on routes such as the one to the airport.
It is expected that traffic on Attiki Odos will increase by over 60% by 2050, according to “K” and Thanasis Tsianos, president of the Association of Greek Transport Engineers, making new road projects essential.
Planned projects include the extension of Kymis Avenue, the expansion of Attiki Odos to the Western Peripheral Ymittos section with Vouliagmeni Avenue towards Lavrio and Rafina, and the construction of a new highway from Elefsina to Thebes, which will bypass Kifisos.
