Giannis Papadopoulos, a serving senior official at Greece’s National Intelligence Service (EYP), has filed a new criminal complaint against the four individuals convicted in the Predator wiretapping case, Tal Dilian, Felix Bitzios, Ioannis Lavranos and Sara Hamou, over the infection of his phone with the Predator spyware.
According to in.gr, the development changes the course of the case through the courts, broadening its scope.
The complaint concerns the formation of a criminal organisation, while Papadopoulos is also seeking an investigation into possible espionage, which he argues could pose a threat to national security.
The complaint is against Tal Dilian, Felix Bitzios, Ioannis Lavranos and Sara Hamou, who were convicted at first instance in the wiretapping case.
Papadopoulos argues that his case differs from the others because of his position, as he handles sensitive and highly classified information. He says that any disclosure of such information to third parties would pose a threat to national security.
He is also asking judicial authorities to broaden their investigation to uncover the full network behind the surveillance operations and identify everyone who participated in or assisted them, whether as instigators, co-perpetrators or accomplices.
Businesspeople Tal Dilian, Felix Bitzios, Giannis Lavranos and Sara Alexandra Hamou were found guilty of misdemeanour offences involving interference with a personal data filing system, violations of the confidentiality of telephone communications and private conversations, and illegal access to information systems or data.
