For the fifth consecutive day, the fire continues to burn on Mount Pangaio [1],[2],[3], located in the Kavala and Serres regions.

The fire started last week in the hard-to-reach Avgo area. According to the Fire Service, 280 firefighters, 46 vehicles, 25 ground teams, 4 aircraft, and 4 helicopters are involved in extinguishing it.

The fire is estimated to have burned between 10,000 and 12,000 acres of forested land.

Two large active fronts are located above Mesoropi-Platanotopos in Kavala and Rodolivos in Serres.

According to Theodoros Markopoulos, Deputy Regional Governor of Kavala, the situation has improved today, but the fire remains uncontrolled and extends over several kilometers. However, no settlements are currently at immediate risk.
