Authorities proceeded yesterday to suspension of the investigations at the factory of “Violanta,” as the propane leak was so extensive (depth of 25 meters) that there is risk for new ignition, according to ERT. Fire-fighting vehicles continuously make water drops for the smoke that continues to come out from the factory.
At the same time, all the documents for the licensing of the factory are being examined thoroughly, in order to ascertain whether the installations and the technological equipment fulfilled the safety rules.
The explosion originated from propane leak, for which the management was aware, in an underground space that was undeclared and does not exist in any plan of the factory, as resulted from the investigation of the Directorate for the Confrontation of Arson Crimes (DAEE) of the Fire Service.
Nationwide strike for the entire sector of Food – Drinks was declared by the Federation of workers of the sector for tomorrow Tuesday, 03.02.
Undeclared in fire safety are also the two above-ground propane tanks, of age over 20 years, from where the leak started.
On the morning of Thursday (29 February) officers of the DAEE went to the offices of the Directorate of Development of the Regional Unit of Trikala and confiscated six files with data, studies and plans that had been submitted in order for the operating license of the factory to be issued.
The prosecutor has given a deadline of 4 months for the submission of the case file and the same procedure will be followed in the coming 24-hour periods.
Meanwhile, nationwide strike for the entire sector of Food – Drinks was declared by the Federation of workers of the sector for tomorrow Tuesday, 3 February.
