The film “Deadpool & Wolverine,” featuring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, raked in $205 million in the USA and $438 million worldwide over the past weekend.

This marks the largest R-rated opening ever, both in the USA and globally, surpassing the previous record of $175 million set by the first Deadpool in 2016.

It also ranks as the 8th biggest opening in American box office history and the largest of the year, surpassing “Inside Out 2,” another Disney film, which opened with $155 million.

A film rated R (for restricted) is not suitable for viewers under 17 unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The success has significantly boosted Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009. Last year, Marvel’s two releases, “The Marvels” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” underperformed, and the company’s three summer blockbusters—”The Marvels,” “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” and “Haunted Mansion”—had only moderate success, leading to a drop in the company’s stock.

This also marks Disney’s third summer hit, following “Inside Out 2” and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” which grossed nearly $2 billion.
