At least 20 people were killed in a large-scale missile strike conducted by Russia on multiple cities in Ukraine, as reported by Ukrainian authorities.
In Kyiv alone, at least seven individuals were killed, including casualties from the attack on Okhmadyt Children’s Hospital. The mayor confirmed the hospital’s evacuation, with casualties whose exact number remains unconfirmed. Health Minister Viktor Lyashko added that the explosion impacted wards housing cancer patients and intensive care units.
According to the UN, May saw the highest number of civilian deaths in Ukraine in nearly a year.
Meanwhile, the head of the military command in the city of Kryvyi Rih (central Ukraine) reported at least ten fatalities there, with another three deaths in the eastern town of Pokrovsk.
According to statements by V. Zelensky, who is expected to travel to Poland, at least four other cities (Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk) were targeted by at least 40 missiles. He also mentioned that besides the children’s hospital, infrastructure and homes were also hit.
Russia has not yet responded to the attacks but has previously maintained that its military does not target infrastructure. The United Nations has reported an increase in civilian casualties in recent months following Russia’s renewed airstrikes.
