A two-month extension has been granted to the investigation into the case of the video in which close associates of Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides appear speaking with unidentified individuals, attempting to find illegal ways to finance his campaign for the 2028 presidential elections, in exchange for political favors. The reason for the extension is linked to new evidence and testimonies from both Cyprus and abroad.
The Independent Criminal Investigator, Andreas Paschalides, stated in a written announcement that a meeting was held yesterday at the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, with the participation of the Assistant Attorney General, the Head Prosecutor of the Criminal Division, the Chief of Police, himself, and the lead police investigator, focusing on the progress of the investigation into the video that was posted on January 8, 2026, by the account “Emily Thompson.”
Paschalides submitted a request for a two-month extension of his term, which was approved by the Attorney General of the Republic.
As he noted, during the intervening period, the full-length footage, containing all conversations, was secured through coordinated actions, beyond the excerpts that had already been made public, and is currently under evaluation.
At the same time, investigators proceeded with taking a large number of statements, as well as actions to collect evidentiary material from Cyprus and other countries. Based on the data so far, it was deemed necessary for the investigation to continue. For this reason, the Independent Criminal Investigator submitted a request for a two-month extension of his term, which was approved by the Attorney General of the Republic.
