Following the bombing of Caracas, Venezuela, and the U.S. capture of President Maduro, Donald Trump threatened to take over Greenland, calling the region strategically essential.
“We need Greenland for national security, and Denmark will not be able to do it,” he told reporters.
Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, drew a strong response from Danish PM Mette Frederiksen, who insisted that the U.S. has no right to discuss occupying any Danish land.
Trump has repeatedly stressed Greenland’s strategic importance for defense and potential mineral resources.
Apart from Greenland, Trump also threatened that he might attack Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, and Iran. Specifically regarding Colombia, Trump said that the country “is run by a sick man,” referring to its leftist president, Gustavo Petro, and accused him of producing and selling cocaine in the U.S. When asked by a journalist if this means there will be an American operation in Colombia, he replied: “Sounds good to me.”
Regarding Cuba, he said that an American military intervention would be unnecessary because the country is ready to collapse. “Cuba no longer has any income. All its revenue came from Venezuela, from Venezuelan oil. Now it gets nothing. Cuba is literally ready to fall.”
At the same time, he also warned Mexico, saying it needs to get things under control because drugs are flooding the country, and “we have to do something.”
