The first polls have opened, and Americans are voting today for their next president. According to Pew Research Center, the top issues are the economy (81%), healthcare (65%), Supreme Court appointments (63%), and foreign policy (61%).
Polls show a tight race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, especially in the swing states that will ultimately decide the winner, making this one of the closest U.S. elections in decades. At the same time, most major betting companies—except one—are giving Trump the edge, although Kamala Harris has recently closed the gap.
In the first polling station to open, traditionally in the small community of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, 3 out of the 6 voters cast their ballots for K. Harris, and the other 3 for D. Trump.
Both candidates spent the final day of their campaigns in swing states yesterday. Trump held four rallies in three states, concluding in Michigan, as he did in his previous two campaigns. In his speeches, he depicted the U.S. under Joe Biden’s presidency as a country on the brink of disaster, emphasizing immigration issues and criticizing prominent Democratic women, including Michelle Obama.
Kamala Harris finished her 107-day campaign in Pennsylvania, striving to create a “positive atmosphere” with unity messages while avoiding mentioning Trump during her speech.
