The investigating judge and the prosecutor ordered the pre-trial detention of the two suspects arrested in connection with the Marfin case, both of whom denied the charges against them.

According to media reports, one of the suspects—who, according to the police, smashed the building’s glass façade—said he had left the protest when the clashes began, while the other stated that he was elsewhere at the time.

The defence has described the case as a “set-up”, arguing, among other things, that there is no conclusive identification based on the forensic report and that only movable objects (e.g. a bag) are being examined.

The third suspect, who is in London, appeared before a court yesterday and accepted the request for her extradition to Greece within 10 days.

“We therefore end up examining only movable objects, and the report states that we cannot reach an absolute identification but must rely on these items. This issue is being used for reasons other than uncovering the truth. Under criminal procedure, the case should be dismissed. No attempt is even being made by the authorities to identify the person who sent the email so that they may contribute testimony to the case file. It bears all the hallmarks of a fabrication,” said the defence lawyer for the two defendants, Annie Paparousou, during a press conference held before their testimonies.

As for the third suspect, she appeared before a court in London yesterday and accepted the request for her extradition to Greece. Provided there is no delay on the part of the Greek authorities, the extradition process is expected to be completed within 10 days.
