The Labour Inspectorate is raising the bar for inspections in 2026, planning more than 72,000 interventions in the labour market—an increase of about 4.5% compared to 2025. The strategy is not limited to a quantitative boost, but focuses on more targeted actions, using risk indicators and companies’ compliance history.

More than 41,700 inspections will concern labour relations, with a focus on combating undeclared and under-declared work. Businesses with previous violations, those that have not been inspected in the past three years, as well as cases of possible repeat offences, are under scrutiny. At the same time, over 25,100 inspections will focus on occupational health and safety, with emphasis on preventing workplace accidents and addressing modern challenges such as heat stress.

Inspections are expected to focus mainly on Central and Western Macedonia, Attica, Epirus, and Crete.

At the sectoral level, the plan reflects clear prioritization. Tourism—especially accommodation (+7.6%)—and food service (+7.5%) remain consistently at the forefront due to seasonality and labour intensity. Increased attention is also given to courier and delivery services, wholesale trade, and construction, where working conditions and risk levels require systematic oversight.

Geographically, inspections are distributed across the country, but with higher concentration in Central Macedonia (around 7,100 inspections), Athens and the wider Attica region (around 5,360), as well as Epirus and Western Macedonia (around 4,920). In terms of safety inspections, Macedonia–Thrace (7,470) and Attica together with Crete (6,540) also stand out.
