The Anti-Terrorism Unit has been in Ampelokipoi since this morning [1], [2], gathering evidence from security cameras around the apartment building where a large explosion occurred yesterday afternoon.

The explosion resulted in the death of a man and left a woman, reportedly affiliated with the anti-authoritarian movement, seriously injured, according to police.

Authorities have so far seized two pistols, a magazine with ammunition, mobile phones, and digital evidence. Police suspect the accidental detonation of an improvised explosive device caused the explosion.

The explosion was so powerful that it raised concerns about the building’s structural stability, requiring other residents to spend the night elsewhere.

According to police sources cited by AMNA, the man who was killed instantly appeared to have been handling an explosive device containing a large quantity of explosive material in the apartment’s living room.

Due to the scale of the explosion, remnants of the device have yet to be found, but investigations are ongoing to determine the type of explosive material involved.

Meanwhile, police spokesperson Konstantina Dimoglido stated on ANT1 television that authorities have identified the woman who was seriously injured in the explosion and is hospitalized at “Evangelismos” hospital. Although she is not yet able to speak, she is known to authorities from previous arrests. The man’s identity, however, has not yet been confirmed. A second woman who possessed keys to the apartment was also identified today.
