Two years after the train collision in Tempi, a special team from the Fire Department (Arson Crime Investigation Division – DAE) reportedly found remnants of the “lost” cabin of the second locomotive of the freight train during an investigation in Koulouri, Larissa, on Friday. This was done following an order from the investigating magistrate of the case, Sotiris Bakaymis, according to a Kathimerini report.

Officials describe that among the metal sheets, the chair and steering wheel of the driver are visible, and that the cabin is “cut into three pieces.” Experts representing the families have expressed reservations about whether the wreckage truly contains parts of this specific cabin.

A team from the Fire Department is expected to carry out an “on-site inspection” of the dining car and the first-class section of the passenger train.

The investigation was triggered by the report from the Special Group for Accident Management and Strategic Safety of Urban Transport (EODASAAM), published on February 27, which stated that the cabin of the second locomotive disappeared after the train collision. This had raised suspicions that the illegal flammable cargo, which caused the explosion after the collision, was located there, according to the newspaper.

A metallurgist is expected to be called as an expert in the coming days to examine the findings, while the investigation will continue next week. The newspaper reports that a team from DAE will expand the “on-site inspection” to include the dining car and the first-class section of the passenger train.
