The SYRIZA Emergency Congress begins today at 18:30. At this meeting, the candidacies for the internal party elections (November 24) will be submitted for approval, and the decision to exclude Stefanos Kasselakis from candidacy will be made. Delegates who emerged from the elections held over the weekend will have the right to participate and vote on these matters.

Without announcing the final number of delegates and with the two different groups within the party (the “87” group and the Kasselakis group) presenting different results, Kasselakis requests the disclosure of the final number. He also condemns that his group’s “elected delegates” have not been informed or received credentials.
Additionally, he is calling them to a gathering outside the venue where the congress will take place, with the Political Secretariat (PS) announcing that “counter-gatherings […] are methods belonging to the opponents and enemies of the Left.”

The four candidates whose nominations will be submitted for approval are A. Gletsos, P. Polakis, S. Famellos, and N. Farantouri.

Meanwhile, yesterday, the Political Secretariat (PS) announced that the party’s Transparency Department had informed it about “very serious allegations” based on “clear and specific evidence” concerning a false asset declaration (“pothen esches”) by Kasselakis. The issue was raised at the extraordinary meeting of the PS by Pavlos Polakis, who, despite having supported Kasselakis’s candidacy until recently—reportedly “to defeat him”—is said to have changed his mind after the new evidence. Kasselakis responded to the allegations about his asset declaration, stating that it is “transparent” and that he does not participate “in any way in any offshore or foreign company.”
