A subsidy for replacing a car with a new electric vehicle is included in the government’s new program under the Climate and Social Plan (ΚΚΣ), which has been opened for public consultation.
This is one of the largest vehicle fleet renewal initiatives in recent decades, aiming to reduce emissions and promote green mobility. According to the plan, substantial financial incentives are offered to households and small businesses to replace their old, polluting vehicles with new ones that have low or zero emissions.
Who is eligible? The program focuses on those considered “transportation vulnerable.”
This category includes:
- Families with children
- Residents of remote, island, or mountainous areas
- People with disabilities or the elderly
- Low-income students
- Small businesses and self-employed professionals with transportation needs
The basic income threshold starts at €25,000 per year and can reach up to €30,000 depending on the household’s social characteristics.
The cost of purchasing a new vehicle is estimated at around €30,000. However, the program includes:
- Government subsidy for the purchase of the new vehicle
- Ten-year loan with state guarantee
- Additional support for vulnerable groups to cover charging or infrastructure costs
