As of yesterday, students in Athens and Thessaloniki have joined the pro-Palestine student movement [1], [2], which originated in the USA and has since spread to Europe.
Hundreds set tents at the Propylae in Athens and the White Tower in Thessaloniki, while the “Assembly of Solidarity with the Palestinian Resistance” has taken action by occupying the Law School in Athens, symbolizing solidarity and support for Palestine while denouncing the ongoing genocide.
The Student Associations are calling for an immediate halt to the genocide of the Palestinian people, the formal recognition of an independent Palestinian state, the cessation of Greek government support for Israel, and the withdrawal of Greece’s military involvement in the conflict. This includes the immediate recall of the “Hydra” frigate from the region.
Pro-Palestine protests commenced in the US in mid-April, resulting in over 2,600 arrests across more than 50 universities thus far.
On Monday evening, a concert took place at the Propylae, featuring numerous artists from the Student Unions of Athens and labor unions.
It was also attended by the Secretary General of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Dimitris Koutsoubas, who made several remarks, including:
“We are here to express our solidarity, once again, with the people of Palestine in this overnight event organized by the student associations of Athens and the workers of Athens. Simultaneously, in many cities not only in our country but across Europe, America, and North America, students are occupying their universities and demanding ‘Freedom in Palestine.'”
