The Assumption Day holiday getaway is facing disruption today, Friday, 14 August, as strong winds of up to 9 on the Beaufort scale affect ferry services, particularly from the ports of Rafina and Lavrio.
All ferries from Rafina and Lavrio will remain in port, although services to Marmari will operate as normal. Travellers departing Athens from Piraeus face fewer disruptions.
From Piraeus, the 07:30 Blue Star Paros service to Syros, Tinos and Mykonos has been cancelled. The Blue Star Myconos has also changed its route and will not stop at Syros or Mykonos due to adverse conditions in the Aegean.
Strong winds are expected to continue on Saturday, 15 August, before easing from Sunday, 16 August.
From Rafina, the morning Fast Ferries Andros service to Andros, Tinos and Mykonos and the Aikaterini P. service to Paros and Naxos were cancelled due to the sailing ban. A return service to Rafina was also cancelled.
Passengers travelling today are advised to check with ferry companies and local port authorities before heading to the ports, as further changes may be made depending on wind conditions.
The situation will be reassessed after 11 a.m., with an update expected on weather conditions and ferry services.
