Katerina Stefanidi and Emmanouil Karalis won silver medals in the women’s and men’s pole vault finals, respectively, at the European Athletics Championships, which concluded yesterday in Rome.
Initially, Katerina Stefanidi flawlessly cleared 4.73m on her first attempt at each height but ultimately finished 2nd behind Switzerland’s Angelica Moser (4.78m). It was her best personal performance of the year, earning her the silver medal—her fifth in the event.
These wins followed M. Tentoglou’s gold medal on Saturday, bringing Greece to 37 medals in the event’s history.
Yesterday, “Manolo” took over the medal spotlight with a jump of 5.87m, securing the silver medal and setting a new official personal record. It marked his first medal in an outdoor track and field event in the men’s category. He made two attempts to break the national record (5.91m) but fell short. The top spot went to Sweden’s Armand Duplantis, who set a new event record with a jump of 6.10m.
The Greek champions will now shift their focus to the Paris Olympic Games, beginning on July 26.
