Hackers are reported to have gained access to 200 million files containing data of premium members of Pornhub, one of the most popular pornographic websites worldwide, with 100 million visits per day.
The data includes users’ emails and location, search and viewing history, as well as details about the videos they watch (e.g. titles, viewing time, URL). No passwords, payment details or financial data were leaked, according to Pornhub itself.
Pornhub stated that the data is not recent, as it came from a third-party company it has not worked with since 2021.
The group accused is called ShinyHunters and did not attack Pornhub’s systems directly, but obtained the data through the analytics company Mixpanel, which Pornhub had previously worked with (until 2021). Therefore, according to the company, the data is not recent.
The hacker group contacted Pornhub, demanding a ransom in bitcoin in exchange for not publishing the data and deleting it. Cybersecurity firm Sophos said it has not so far seen the data posted on leak sites.
