The Mixed Jury Court of Athens today unanimously found Roula Pispirigkou guilty of intentional and serial murder of her two children, Iris and Malena [1], [2] . The court followed the prosecutor’s recommendation and sentenced her to two life sentences, almost a year after her conviction for the murder of Georgina. She is expected to serve a total of up to 25 years in prison.

Pispirigkou stated that she would appeal the decision and did not request any mitigating circumstances (nor were any granted), as she continues to claim her innocence. She had also appealed the court’s decision regarding Georgina, with the appeal set to be heard on May 5.

The authorities in Patras launched the investigation following the death of the last of her three children, who passed away within less than three years.

Prosecutor Vasiliki Dimopoulou had requested the conviction of the defendant, attributing the motive to her obsession with her then-husband, Manos Daskalakis. “Pispirigkou drowned the children, why? To continue her marriage with Daskalakis,” she had said.

Additionally, the court decided to investigate the charge of perjury against five witnesses, specifically four forensic pathologists and one doctor (a pathologist), who “contradicted themselves” during their testimonies, according to the prosecutor.

The case began to raise concerns for the authorities in Patras in February 2022, following the death of Georgina in January 2022, the last of the three children in the family to die within less than three years, with Malena passing away in April 2019 and Iris in March 2021.
