Pet-sitting is becoming a more organised and popular service in Greece, particularly since the pandemic, when both pet ownership and demand for professional care while owners are away increased.
Demand peaks during the summer, especially in August, with experienced and highly rated pet sitters often booked several weeks in advance.
Prices vary depending on the service, location, sitter’s experience and the pet’s needs. A walk or home visit typically costs around €10, while an overnight stay costs around €20-25 for a dog and €12-16 for a cat.
Around 60% of pets adapt almost immediately, 30% need one or two days and around 10% have significant difficulty adjusting, according to an expert.
According to a professional in the sector, prices have risen by around 15%-20% in recent years, reflecting increased demand and the responsibility involved in caring for someone else’s pet. However, they remain significantly lower than in Northern Europe and the US, where an overnight stay can start at around €60.

For older or anxious pets, or those with mobility or other problems, home visits are often preferred so they can remain in familiar surroundings rather than being moved to someone else’s home.
