OFI won the Greek Super Cup

OFI won the Greek Super Cup for the first time in its history, beating champions AEK on penalties.

AEK took the lead in the 38th minute through Luka Jović, Thanasis Androutsos equalised for OFI in the 69th minute and the Cretans went 2-1 ahead in the 76th minute with a goal from Konstantinos Kostoulas, but AEK equalised in the 97th minute through Zini to make it 2-2.

Under the rules of the Greek Super Cup, if the two teams are level at the end of regular time, the match does not go to extra time but directly to a penalty shootout.

The 1st Super Cup (champion vs cup winner) was held in 1980, it has been played 11 times and the titles are: Olympiacos 5, Panathinaikos 3, AEK 2, OFI 1.

There, OFI goalkeeper Nikos Christogeorgos made the difference, saving Barnabás Varga’s penalty, while OFI’s players converted all five of their penalties.

OFI also became the first team after Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and AEK to win the Greek Super Cup. The Cretan team played in the Greek Super Cup for the second consecutive year: this year, it qualified as Greek Cup winner, while last year, given that Olympiacos won both the league and the cup, OFI played because it was the cup runner-up.
