Christos Mageirias, partner of Kalliopi Semertzidou, who was a candidate with New Democracy, testified before the parliamentary inquiry on OPEKEPE that the Ferrari was a gift from his mother following the expropriation of a plot of land they co-owned.
“80% belonged to me and 20% to my mother. My mother transferred it to me as a gift after a year. You can’t bury a family. We are honest farmers,” he said.
He also stated that he has won the lottery at least eight times, totaling €25,000 in winnings from 2019 to today. When asked by New Democracy MP Makarios Lazaridis whether he had won lottery tickets before 2019, he confirmed that he had: “Some again. €5,000, €2,000, €800, €300,” he said.
“Hassapis,” Semertzidou, and Mageirias are being investigated by the justice system due to their connection with gambling winnings.
He also described as misinformation the report by the Anti-Money Laundering Authority, claiming he did not receive illegal OPEKEPE subsidies, which he is accused of, and that he was not part of any financial police inspections.
“Since August 5-6, this started circulating about my family. The Authority produced a hasty report, and that’s why I have appealed. It is based solely on suspicions. When I read it, it says that EU funds were taken by the family—not illegally, but allocated for purposes they shouldn’t have been. No one in my family has binding rights to the money. I have filed an appeal regarding the report,” he said.
