Maria Karystianou announced the founding of a political party, emphasizing the need for a change in the political system.

“I’m on the front line with other people trying to organize this movement,” she said in an interview with Kontra Channel.

She clarified that the movement will consist of citizens not involved in political parties who have the knowledge, the willingness, the vision, and the drive, “because we’re aiming for something very big,” as she stressed.

When asked if it should take the form of a party and run in elections, the president of the Association of Victims of the Tempi Accident 2023 said:

“Most likely yes, if it’s ready, if it’s properly organized, if the right people are found, if all the necessary conditions are met, of course it will participate. And it will be good that it does, because we need something to vote for, an alternative.”

A recent poll showed that 19.5% would (very or fairly) vote for a party led by M. Karystianou, while 26.1% view its establishment positively.

She made it clear that there is no possibility of collaboration with any existing party, including that of Alexis Tsipras, stressing that “there must be an alternative that is 100% different from all the others.”

“There is no possibility of cooperation with any of the previous political parties. Anything connected to the old system does not concern us. Especially Mr. Tsipras, who was prime minister,” she added.

“In the elections, there must be an alternative that is 100% different from all the others,” she concluded.
