Kamala Harris spoke firmly to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, declaring that she ‘will not remain silent‘ about the ‘dire’ humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Harris added that “what has been happening in Gaza over the past nine months is devastating. The images of dead children and desperate, starving people fleeing for safety, often displaced for the second, third, or even fourth time.”
She also called for the establishment of a Palestinian state and urged Israel to agree to a ceasefire with Hamas and to negotiate a prisoner exchange.
Netanyahu has been in the U.S. since yesterday at the invitation of the American Congress and is scheduled to meet with D. Trump.
She acknowledged that “Israel has the right to defend itself” and condemned Hamas as a brutal terrorist organization responsible for starting the war and committing “horrific acts of sexual violence.” However, she emphasized that how Israel conducts its defense is also crucial.
During the meetings, pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside the White House, demonstrating against the Israeli Prime Minister and chanting slogans in support of peace. Netanyahu himself dismissed the protesters as “useful idiots of Iran.”
Meanwhile, former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama have publicly endorsed Kamala Harris’s candidacy for the presidential election.
