Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday that Israel is continuing to “strike Hezbollah with full force,” speaking from New York ahead of his address to the UN General Assembly today. His remarks came after Israel rejected a U.S.-France proposal for a temporary ceasefire with Hezbollah.
Today, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that military attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon “will intensify” to “restore security in northern cities and allow displaced residents, now over 67,000, to return safely to their homes.” The ministry also announced that it secured an $8.7 billion aid package from the U.S. to “support ongoing military efforts.”
Over 30,000 people have fled from Lebanon to Syria in the last 72 hours, according to the UN.
The IDF continues to bomb cities in Lebanon, with at least 25 people killed since early this morning, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health. Yesterday, 92 people were killed and over 150 injured, bringing the total death toll to more than 700 since Monday. Meanwhile, Hezbollah conducted four airstrikes on Israel today, injuring one person, “in response to the Israeli attacks on towns and villages.”
In Gaza, the IDF targeted a school-turned-shelter in Jabalia, killing at least 15 Palestinians. The total number of Palestinian deaths has now exceeded 41,500 since September 7, 2023.
