Israel’s security cabinet has approved the legal framework that will allow a multinational security force to enter Gaza as part of the ceasefire plan presented by US President Donald Trump.
The mission, called the International Stabilization Force, is initially expected to comprise around 200 personnel from countries Israel describes as “friendly”, including Uganda and Morocco. According to an Israeli official, its members will be deployed in areas not under Israeli control, while each national contingent will require separate approval from the Israeli authorities.
The decision came shortly before Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington and his expected meeting with Donald Trump.
It remains unclear when the force will begin to deploy, as implementation of the broader US plan has been delayed. The plan provides for an increase in humanitarian aid, the administration of Gaza by Palestinian technocrats, the disarmament of Hamas and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces.
However, key conditions have not been met. Hamas has not agreed to surrender its weapons, the proposed Palestinian technocratic administration remains outside Gaza, and Israel continues to carry out military operations on an almost daily basis. According to the report, Israel controls around 64% of the Gaza Strip and has announced plans to expand its control to 70%.
