Meta has started testing a feature on Instagram with select users, allowing them to “reset” the criteria used by the platform to recommend content. This option is designed for users who feel the personalized content they see does not match their preferences and wish to “start over.”
The announcement from Meta does not indicate that previously collected data will be deleted. Instead, the algorithm will reassess user preferences to provide content recommendations through the Explore page, Reels, and suggested posts in their feed.
Over time, suggested content will become personalized again, reflecting new interactions with content and accounts. During the reset process, users will be guided to a page where they can review and manage the accounts they follow.
Users can temporarily turn off suggested content in their feed for 30 days, limiting it to posts from accounts they follow.
Until this new feature is rolled out to all users, they can still adjust suggested content by tapping the three dots on a suggested post and selecting either “Interested” (available only for Reels) or “Not Interested.”
Users also have the option to hide content containing specific words or phrases, limit sensitive content (by default, Instagram displays “some” sensitive content), and block political content (by default, Instagram does not recommend political content, as detailed in the related explainer).
Additionally, users can temporarily disable all suggested content in their feed for 30 days, showing only posts from accounts they follow. To manage suggested content, users can navigate to: Settings and Activity > Suggested Content.
