Let’s go, Kotsos, let’s go… Come on!
With only 1,360 days of his presidency remaining, and the first 100 already a distant, bittersweet memory, all we can do is sit back with popcorn in hand, waiting to see how much more chaos he can stir up.
In just over three months, Trump managed to cause the biggest upheaval in U.S. foreign policy since the end of World War II, exceeding even the low standards he set during his first term
He clashed with NATO, “dumped” Ukraine, imposed staggering tariffs on allies, ghosted International organizations, praised leaders like El Salvador’s president Nayib Bukele (a guy who deserves as many kicks as those responsible for Panathinaikos’ transfer planning [names withheld]), and gave Netanyahu the green light to continue the genocide in Gaza without a care in the world.
The highlights include his ‘parasites’ comment about the EU member states, as well as his statements about the annexation of Canada and Greenland.
Among the highligths of the first 100 days was calling EU member states ‘parasites’ as well as his comments about the U.S. annexing Canada and Greenland.
The pace at which he signs executive orders can only be compared to the rate at which [the legendary] Félix Borja would have scored goals in his first year at Olympiakos, having signed 142 orders in the first 100 days, 37 of them in the first week.
“I have 1,000 ways to score. I’ll score 25 goals,” said the “goal machine” Félix Borja in May 2006 during his first interview with Protathlitis newspaper.
For the record, he ended his first and only season in Greece with 5 goals in 27 appearances across all competitions, which, no, isn’t much for a striker billed as the ‘Cobra of Ecuador.’
Anyway, let’s not stray off topic.
As if the shit show he caused in global markets due to tariffs, even affecting islands where only penguins live, isn’t severe enough that economists are now openly discussing the possibility of a global recession, the situation domestically is even worse.
He gave excessive powers to the completely inexperienced Elon Musk, who has zero clue about public administration, and who, in turn, staffed DOGE with employees from his companies, all of whom also lacked relevant expertise. They then fired 135,000 public servants (equivalent to two Lamias) and drastically reduced essential programs and funding vital for millions of vulnerable citizens.
American authorities are arresting hundreds of throusands of immigrants by the bunch, and are deporting them through fast-track procedures, which are being questioned for their legality, while raiding the homes of pro-Palestinian students, who are held for weeks without charges and threatened with deportation.
Amid all this, his approval rating, at 41%, is the lowest for any newly elected president in their first 100 days, at least since Eisenhower (1953-1961), including his own first term.
His approval is declining at an accelerating rate over the months, with only 22% stating they are fully satisfied with the way he governs, while a record 45% say they strongly disagree.
In a recent survey of 600 researchers, 548, or 80%, said they are considering leaving the country due to Trump’s policies.
Funding cuts for research programs as well as his threats towards major universities in the U.S. and worldwide (Harvard, Columbia, Yale, Johns Hopkins, etc.) to freeze federal funding if they don’t comply and adjust their curricula to his preferences have led to a wave of scientists migrating abroad, mainly to Europe and Canada.
In a recent study by Nature, involving 600 researchers, 548, or 80%, said they are considering leaving the country due to Trump’s policies.
In an attempt to be fair, I searched high and low to find something he’s done, proposed, or said—anything at all during this time—that might not necessarily be good, but at least falls within the realm of reason. But zilch.
As the wise people say: You’re looking for a needle in a haystack.
To conclude, and since I don’t have a great Giorgos Bistikeas type next to me to calm me down (may he rest in peace), I’d just like to say that if these past 100 days have felt like 100 years to you too, just hang in there. We’ve only got 1358 days left, they will pass.
