The police officer convicted in the first instance for his involvement in a trafficking ring in Ilioupoli has returned to the Hellenic Police [1], [2] specifically to the Directorate of Technical Applications.
Despite his conviction and ongoing trial in the appellate court, he was assigned to his position after serving a 2-year suspension.
The case became known in 2021 when a girl managed to escape from him and asked for help at a café in Ilioupoli.
Although under the new Disciplinary Code his return to the Hellenic Police could have been avoided, the disciplinary prosecution of the police officer took place while the old Disciplinary Code was still in effect, according to ethnos.gr.
The officer, referring to the reactions caused by his return, hastened to describe it as a “painful story” that, as he claims, he “wants to leave behind.”
It is noted that on Tuesday, January 28, the trial for the Ilioupoli trafficking case continued in the second instance for the fifth hearing. Defense witnesses for the defendants were examined, and the trial will continue on February 20, 2025, in the same courtroom.
